Visakhapatnam: Law students hold model assembly on Intellectual Property Rights
Visakhapatnam: Believing that innovation begins at home, the Society for Law and Technology (SOLT) of Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University is conducting a two-day ‘Model Assembly’ on Intellectual Property Rights Laws. The Intellectual Property Rights provides the formal framework for protecting one’s knowledge, creativity and innovation.
More than 15 teams from reputed law schools have presented their perspective on legal issues related to creation protection and enforcement of trademarks at national and international level. The objective of this programme is to discuss, deliberate and debate the contemporary areas of Intellectual Property Rights like non-conventional trademarks, life form patents, internet of things, patenting of traditional knowledge, copyrights in social media.
On the first day, opening remarks were given by DSNLU Vice-Chancellor (I/C) Prof. (Dr) V. Kesava Rao. Prof. T. Rama Krishna, Chair Professor, MHRD, IPR Chair, National Law School of India University, Bangalore delivered the keynote address. During his talk, he highlighted on divergent facets of like copyright protection in the era of digitalisation, trademark protection under the aegis of Madrid protocol.
After this he also explained the intricacies involved in the grant of life form patents, there he quoted landmark judgments of U.S.A and EU on the subject.
He also threw some light on violation of copyrights by social media like twitter, facebook. In the post-lunch session, copyright issues pertaining to the digital medium were discussed. Universities are academic communities' organic link with society.
