Kochi Metro Rail Limited opens transit data for public
Kochi: Kochi Metro Rail Limited has re-launched its website with several commuter-friendly features including open transit data approach. Open transit data refers to all information on Metro schedules, stops, routes, fares, and other details like connectivity with other modes of transport which have been converted into the universally accepted General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) standard.
This will help commuters to plan their trips to different parts of the city. To improve reliability, provide a seamless transport service and facilitate access to employment, education, healthcare and recreation, the information needs to be communicated by agencies. All the information is accessible for anyone to use, re-use and redistribute freely.
Some of the major features of the new website include 3D Parallax technology for visual experience, open data initiative, widget to calculate fare between stations, live chat support for customers, station locator, media and Image gallery and social media integration. Real Time parking slots availability in each station can also be accessed. The new website was launched by Manoj Nair CEO, Smart city in the presence of A P M Mohammed Hanish, MD KMRL, O.P. Agarwal, CEO, WRI India and Madhav Pai, director, Sustainable Cities, WRI India.
