Farook College panel to probe attack on students
KOZHIKODE: The protest by students unions jointly at Farook College on Friday after many of them were attacked by teachers and non-teaching staff on Thursday ended after the management agreed to set up a special panel to investigate the attack and take action against the attackers. The meeting on Friday was mediated by Feroke circle inspector and college principal. A staff council would be convened on Monday to choose the panel. There would be representatives of the students as well as parents.
The students were attacked for celebrating Holi after the classes of degree second year students were wrapped up. They were denied permission to celebrate on Thursday after a Holi celebration on March 12 ended in clashes by the students and locals, when it extended outside the campus. When permission was denied, they tried to celebrate in the back courtyard of the college and were beaten up with sticks and pipes.
The students alleged that those who had colours splashed on their dresses were picked and brutally beaten up. Six students are admitted at Government general hospital. The students also demanded to disperse a jagratha samiti, a group of locals that interfere in the internal matters of the college.
