Telangana seeks details from Karnataka of its projects
Hyderabad: The TS government has sought details of construction of four lift irrigation projects in Karnataka from the government of that state and the Central Water Commission.
Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao informed the Legislative Council that the TS government was aware of various lift irrigation schemes taken up by Karnataka. “Any upstream project will have an impact on downstream projects by reducing flow to the extent of utilisation of water by upstream projects,” the minister said.
Mr Rao said the TS government had taken up the matter with the Karnataka government and the CWC for furnishing Detailed Project Reports as well as clearances accorded by Central government agencies.
To another question, he said that the government has taken up modernisation and strengthening of distribution canals of Nizam Sagar project to provide water to tail-end areas at a cost of Rs 954.77 crore. “90 per cent of the work has been completed and the remaining work is expected to be completed by June,” he said.
