Tamil Nadu to recruit 10,500 for youth brigade

3,000 more houses for police personnel will be built at a cost of Rs 450 crore.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu finance minister D Jayakumar during his budget presentation announced that the government, through the TN Uniformed Service Recruitment Board, would recruit 10,500 persons in the coming financial year to the Tamil Nadu Special Police Youth Brigade to fill the existing vacancies.

While noting that a total of Rs 6,483 crore has been allocated for the police department, the minister said that the government will take up construction of buildings for 49 more police stations during the coming financial year at a cost of Rs 30 crore. During the same time 3,000 more houses for police personnel will be built at a cost of Rs 450 crore, he said.

During the 2016-17 financial year, the government had networked all the 1,913 police stations / special units and 488 higher offices throughout the state under the crime and criminal tracking network system (CCTNS).

During 2016-17, the government had provided additional vehicles and modern equipment for surveillance and communication to the police department at a cost of Rs 51.33 crore while Rs 47.91 crore had been allocated for modernisation of the force.

For the next financial year, Rs 253 crore has been allotted for fire and rescue service department while the prison department has been allotted Rs 282 crore.
