Pulse prices doubled over last year: Telangana Finance Minister
Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Wednesday informed the Legislative Assembly that prices of pulses in the state have doubled over the last year.
It said prices of rice varieties have increased moderately during this period while it could control the prices of other essential commodities and vegetables effectively through market intervention mechanism.
Finance minister Etela Rajender said the state government had constituted a Price Monitoring Committee headed by chief secretary which has been monitoring the prices of essential commodities periodically and taking up measures to control prices.
He said the average price of red gram (grade-I) in state, which was Rs 87.55 per kg in March 2015 has now increased to Rs136.48 and grade-II variety from Rs 79.05 to Rs 121.33.
Similarly, the average price of black gram has increased to Rs 150.57 as against Rs 86.19 in March 2015. The price of bengal gram has increased from Rs 48.31 to Rs 65.56 during the same period.
Price of chillies has witnessed a sharp increase from Rs 89.62 per kg to Rs 133.75. He said the average price of super fine rice (grade-I) increased from Rs 41.05 per kg to Rs 41.88 and grade-II variety from Rs 35.58 to Rs 37.31.
Mr Rajender also informed the House that there has been a decrease in the price of vegetables over the same period last year due to steps taken by the government in ensuring adequate vegetable supplies to all markets.
He said the efforts of the government paid off due to which the price of potatoes has decreased from Rs 23.16 to Rs 20.50 in the open market and from Rs 19.28 to Rs 16.92 in rythu bazaars.
The average price of tomatoes came down from Rs 11.74 to Rs 8.82 in open market and from Rs 9.55 to Rs 6.59 in rythu bazaars. But the price of brinjal has increased from Rs 21.90 to Rs 24.42 in open market and from Rs 18.40 to Rs 20.70 in rythu bazaars .
