2G scam accused's family breaks silence
Chennai: The family of 2G scam accused Sadiq Basha breaking their silence on the eve of the 2016 Assembly polls could be a major embarrassment for the DMK since political opponents could pounce on it to recall 2G scam which is one of the major causes for the party’s rout in the 2011 Assembly polls.
The family has released advertisements in Tamil dailies for the fifth death anniversary of Sadiq Basha depicting him as a victim of deceit of some with whom he was associated for the sake of gratitude. The posters have verses from a song in Tamil film Karnan, highlighting the character from the epic Mahabharata. The verses Senjotru kadan theerka, seradha idam serndhu, vanjathil veezhdhayadaa means that he had fallen into trickery after joining a place where he should not have for the sake repaying his debts.
Since, Sadiq Basha was close to former Union minister A. Raja accused in the 2G scam, the posters are said to be accusing Raja’s relatives. Besides, Sadiq Basha’s brother-in-law Ashik had spoken to a news channel about the advertisement and said the family had decided to break its silence as they did not get their legitimate share of the company, Green House Promoters, which Sadiq Basha was running.
He also said the company running successfully lost its way after politicians entered the firm. Due to company’s decline, Sadiq Basha committed suicide as he was under tremendous pressures, Ashik had said. Sadiq Basha had told his wife that a company he had built through hardwork was mired in controversy.
DMK leaders declined to comment on the posters but asked “What is there in the posters to link the DMK or any of its leaders?
Why should the DMK react to it”. One of the functionaries at Perambalur said, “The CBI had investigated Sadiq Basha’s suicide and found nothing to link any
DMK leader. Basha’s suicide note also did not mention anyone. His family is also not accusing anyone in the DMK. Getting a share in a private company has nothing to do with our party”.
