Nabard DGM inspects construction of regulator

The progress of the work was reviewed by Ms. Brindha along with V. Rajaraman, DDM, Nabard Tiruchy district and officials of the PWD.

Tiruchy: Ms. S. Brindha, Deputy General Manager, Nabard Regional Office, inspected the ongoing construction of a new regulator across Southern and Northern Arm of Kollidam river at Mukombu near here.

It may be recalled that the construction of a regulator is to replace the existing 182-year-old brick masonry regulator whose vents collapsed and were washed off during the heavy downpour in the Cauvery river catchment area in August 2018.

A NABARD release said here on Saturday the bank has sanctioned Rs.368 crore to the Government of Tamil Nadu from its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for the ongoing construction, as against the total estimated cost of Rs 387.60 crore.

The progress of the work was reviewed by Ms. Brindha along with V. Rajaraman, DDM, Nabard Tiruchy district and officials of the PWD.

The project is proceeding smoothly and the pile foundation work has picked up after the heavy water flow due to rains in October/November. The construction sites, quality control work and safety measures were explained by the site engineers and PWD officials, it added.
