Man dies after car falls into river, constable slips off bridge, killed

The deceased was identified as Gandi Srinivas, a government teacher working at Uppari village of Malyala mandal, resident of Subashnagar in the city.

Karimnagar: In two separate accidents on Sunday four persons, including a policeman, were killed and three left injured in Karimnagar district.

In a collision between a lorry and a car on Manair bridge near Alganur in the city outskirts, a car fell down the bridge resulting in the death of a person and injuries to another.

The deceased was identified as Gandi Srinivas, a government teacher working at Uppari village of Malyala mandal, resident of Subashnagar in the city. Srinivas along with his wife Swarupa were travelling in a car to have darshan of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy at Komeruvelli temple. They were to pick their relatives on their way at Alganur.

When they reached the bridge, a speeding lorry hit their car which fell skidded down 50 feet. Srinivas who was driving the car, died on the spot while his wife survived with minor injuries. The locals saved Swarupa and shifted her to the Karimnagar government hospital for treatment.

On learning about the accident, a huge crowd gathered on the bridge. Meanwhile, the police who received information of the accident deployed a constable, Chandrasekhar Goud, for controlling and clearing the traffic. He slipped from the bridge and fell down. As there was no water, Chandra-sekhar Goud fell on the stones and was injured seriously. The locals shifted him to the hospital, where he lost his life.
