Sumalatha Ambareesh offers land to martyr's kin

Sumalatha said, Giving such great souls the respect they deserve on their final journey is the least we can do for their supreme sacrifice.

Bengaluru: Actress and wife of late actor-turned-politician Ambareesh, Sumalatha, has condoled the death of CRPF soldiers in a terror attack in Pulwama in Kashmir and offered to provide a piece of land to the next of kin of Guru, the Mandya-based jawan, who died in the attack.

Sumalatha, who is currently in Malaysia along with her son Abhishek for the shooting of his debut venture Amar, said, “I came to know that there were some issues pertaining to land to be given to perform the last rites of Guru.

Giving such great souls the respect they deserve on their final journey is the least we can do for their supreme sacrifice.”

“I along with Abhishek have decided to give half acre of land to the martyr's family, so as to perform the last rites and then build a memorial of the braveheart,” she added.

However, after she came to know that the state government has arranged the land for the last rites of Guru, Sumalatha said that after returning from Malaysia, she will meet the martyr's family and handover the land.

“I did my duty as a daughter and daughter-in-law of this land (Mandya),” she said.

Following the death of Ambareesh, her name began doing rounds in political circles as a potential candidate to fight the Lok Sabha elections from Mandya.

The actress has reportedly made it clear that she is willing to contest on Congress ticket only.

Recently, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy had questioned her contribution to Mandya and said she came to limelight only after Ambareesh's death.
