Guilty will not be spared: K Srinivas

GUNTUR: Minister for medical and health K. Srinivas inspected the operation theatres at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur on Friday and warned stern action against those responsible for surgeries in cell phone flashlight. He said that there were 25 operation theatres in GGH and claimed they were well-equipped. Mr Srinivas said that the power supply was cut four times on Feb. 10 when the doctors were performing plastic surgery to the face of a patient, G. Venkayamma, whose face was badly damaged in attack by a stray dog.

He said that the generator was started but as the power supply tripped to the operation theatre, the LED bulbs did not light up in the theatre. "The concerned electrician repaired and restored power in five minutes." He praised the GGH doctors for reconstructing Venkayamma's nose and skin through plastic surgery.
The minister said he got a phone call from the CMO about the surgery in cell phone flashlight and immediately ordered the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) to submit a detailed report on the incident conducting a thorough inquiry. The cell phone flashlight was used during the surgery at the surgical operation theatre (SOT) which was modernised spending Rs 10 lakh and where LEDs were fixed.
