Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader P.C. Vishnunath is not keen on contesting the Chengannur by-election as he is in charge of the party in Karnataka which is preparing for general elections. Mr Vishnunath told the media that he had apprised the Congress leadership of his decision.

The byelection will be a prestige fight for the 'A' group which does not want to lose it. CPM’s K. K. Ramachandran Nair, whose death has led to the byelection, had defeated Mr Vishnunath by 7,983 votes in 2016. The BJP had also captured a large chunk of votes.
