Learn lessons from verdict in Sasikala case, MK Stalin tells cadre
CHENNAI: DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Thursday asked his partymen to learn the guidelines for public life from the verdict given by the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case against Sasikala and added that it is not an occasion to celebrate. In a letter in party organ ‘Murasoli’, Stalin said the verdict gives a lesson that those who enter public life should act with honesty and an attitude to serve the people. It would serve as a warning that corruption would ruin the economy of the country. The verdict has several lessons including public servants should not get money as donation and just filing of IT returns would not mean that the income is legal.
Terming the judgment of special court judge Micheal Cunha on September 27, 2014, historic, Stalin said when he delivered the verdict, several protests were held against him by AIADMK cadres. The verdict was a rare judgment with good analysis and the judge faced too many difficulties with the convicts filing several petitions in the court to hamper the hearing.
The petitions including opposing to Governor giving sanction for the case, plea to declare the formation of the special court as illegal, discharge petitions, appointment of the enquiry officer, plea declaring it as a case for political revenge, plea to translate the documents, demand for inspecting the documents, request for nomination of a particular lawyer for the prosecution and a plea for investigation after the hearing got over, Stalin said and added that the final verdict was obtained after a struggle of 21 years.
The victory in the case was obtained by the legal battle of party general secretary K. Anbazhagan through the guidelines of party president M. Karunanidhi. Stalin also thanked the officials who faced several difficulties to get a landmark judgmen in the country. Stalin also hailed Karnataka government prosecutor Acharya who faced hardships and functioned with honesty.
