Hyderabad: 3 hurt as hotel lift crashes
Hyderabad: Three persons were injured when a lift in the Swagath Grand Hotel at A.S. Rao Nagar crashed to the ground floor on Wednesday night.
There were five persons in the lift when the incident occurred and three of them were treated for injuries.
The cause was said to be an issue with the lift’s maintenance. No case was booked against the management.
This is the second such incident in a fortnight — a lift had collapsed in a newly-constructed building at Bandlaguda, near Chandrayangutta.
The GHMC has no jurisdiction to check lifts in buildings, and most builders assemble their own lifts. The GHMC states: “Maintenance of lifts and their safety is the sole responsibility of the builder or the apartment welfare groups.”
Records reveal that nearly 3,000 lifts are sold every year in the twin cities, but 50 per cent of them are locally made and the companies do not provide maintainence.
