Opposition parties boycott budget, walk out
Chennai: Tamil Nadu opposition including DMK, DMDK and the Left parties on Tuesday boycotted the budget presentation by staging a walkout.
After staging a walkout DMK treasurer M. K. Stalin told reporters that during the DMK regime, the credit was around Rs 90,000 crore and now the credit during the present regime has surged to Rs 2,11,480 crore which is an increase by over 200 per cent.
Despite the state increasing the power tariff by 37 per cent the electricity board department reels under Rs 1,50,000 crore debt. If the losses and credits of state government and all public department undertakings are evaluated the state’s liability will be around Rs 4 lakh crore and opined that the interim budget will be of no use to the public. DMDK legislator and party whip Chandrakumar said that the state has reached defunct mode. Demonstrations and protests are becoming common in the state and the flood relief has not reached the beneficiaries and this interim budget is a big disappointment.
Earlier in the day tension prevailed in the Assembly, when Puthiya Tamilzhagam leader Dr K. Krishnasamy displayed a poster against the Speaker for suspending DMDK MLAs and not encouraging the Opposition to raise public issues. The Speaker warned the MLA for his act before he staged a walkout.
