LDF to take on Sangh

Oppn plans week-long protest marches from February 19.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition LDF has decided to organise protest marches and demonstrations from February 19 to 26 across the state in protest against BJP led government's “anti-democratic and authoritarian” actions and the Sangh Parivar attack on democratic institutions.

LDF convenor Vaikom Viswan said week-long people’s protest would be organised in all 140 Assembly constituencies across the state.

The recent incidents in JNU and the attack on CPM office in Delhi reflected the premeditated attempts of communal and fascist forces to curb individual and organisational freedom of the people. These anti-democratic forces were unleashing the worst kind of violence with the blessings of the BJP government at the Centre, he added.

Mr Viswan said the attack on Left workers, teachers, JNU students and media persons at Patiala House courts on Monday had affected the court’s functioning for hours. The mediapersons had to take refuge in judicial officer’s chamber to save themselves from the rampaging Sangh Parivar goons.

The LDF convenor said the police remained a mute spectator when a BJP MLA led a gang of criminals to attack students. The Left forces had fought the anti-democratic attack on the JNU and because of its unflinching stand, the Sangh Parivar had targeted the CPM central office AKG Bhavan in Delhi and issued death threats to party general secretary Sitaram Yechury, he added.

The LDF said in Kerala the police had invoked sections of UAPA against CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan and lodged him in jail.

Despite investigating the matter for over 500 days, the investigation agency could not include him in the accused list. But all that changed within two days at the behest of the RSS top brass.

Mr Viswan accused the Congress-led UDF government of conspiring with the Sangh Pariar to target CPM leaders. Using draconian laws like UAPA and KAPA against political workers seems to have become the policy of the UDF government in state, he added.
