Bengaluru: Gang walks away with Rs 10 lakh jewellery in UB City
BENGALURU: A four member gang, including a woman, who entered a jewellery shop posing as customers, allegedly stole gold and diamond jewels worth Rs 10 lakh. The incident was reported in Diani Jewels in the UB City on Vittal Mallya Road on Sunday.
Police said that a woman and three men entered the shop around 5 pm and asked the salesgirl to show the latest designs in bracelets and ear rings. When the salesgirl displayed the bracelets and ear rings in a tray, one of the men managed to steal a bracelet.
Then the woman discussed about the bracelets for ten minutes with the salesgirl and told her she did not like any designs. When she was keeping the tray back, the other man stole a pair of earrings. They all left the shop at 5.20 pm and escaped in a car.
“The incident came to light when the salesgirl noticed that a bracelet and a pair of ear rings was missing on Monday morning. She brought it to the notice of the owner, who verified the CCTV footage to find out the theft was committed by the four persons. He immediately filed a complaint. The thieves were conversing in Hindi as per the salesgirl’s statement,” the police added.
The Cubbon Park police are investigating the case.
Salesman steals Rs 24 lakh worth gold rings, caught
The Jayanagar police have arrested a 32-year-old salesman of a jewellery shop, who had stolen 79 gold rings, worth Rs 24 lakh, in a span of 4-5 months.
The accused has been identified as Balakrishnan alias Babu, a resident of Tyagarajanagar. He was working as salesman at PC Jewelers located in Jayanagar third block from the past two years.
According to the police, the showroom manager, Satish Rao, had filed a complaint alleging that 79 gold rings had gone missing from their showroom in the last 4-5 months.
The management suspected Babu and the police picked him up for questioning. When interrogated, he reportedly confessed that he used to steal ring every alternate days.
“He used to hide the ring in his shoes and thus the security staff could not find it. In the report he has to submit everyday to the management, he mentioned all jewels were intact. However, the theft came to light when the management conducted an audit recently and found 79 rings missing. They immediately filed a complaint and it led to his arrest,” the police said.
“The accused confessed that he used to pledge stolen rings with gold finance firms. He used the money to lead a lavish life and betting on horses. Based on his information, the 79 rings pledged at various firms were recovered,” the police added.
