Wild elephants destroy crops

Locals appealed the forest officer to arrange trenches before their farms to prevent the wild elephants from entering the area.

Nellore: Wild elephants destroyed standing crops including Ragi, Paddy, Banana, Tomato and Mango near Poolavanivanka in Keeramanda Panchayat of Bangarupalyam mandal in Chittoor district late on Tuesday night. The damaged farms belong to farmers, Prabhavatamma, Vasundar, Surend-ra, Lakshamma and Vijayalakshmi. They have alleged that tuskers have been targeting their farms in regular intervals.

Forest officer Madhusudhan has inspected the affected farms to estimate the loss. on Wednesday. Locals appealed the forest officer to arrange trenches before their farms to prevent the wild elephants from entering the area.
