100 young women had darshan this season: Kadkampally Surendran
Thiruvananthapuram: Devaswom Minister Kadkampally Surendran on Wednesday said according to his understanding around 100 young women might have had darshan at Sabarimala temple this season.
The minister said though the government or the devaswom board do not have agewise break-up and other details of the women, he believed that their number could be 100.
Kadakampally said those blocking women at Sabarimala were goondas in the garb of devotees and the people should see through their devious designs. Young women are going to Sabarimala on the strength of the Supreme Court verdict.
Despite the goondaism and violence by anti-socials, the police department has maintained restraint. They have not resorted to any provocative measures. The police persuaded the women to return in the face of violent protests and safety concerns.
He said the women who came on Wednesday were part of a group and that's why they invited the attention of the protesters.
Even if one person comes forward to visit the hill shrine the police was duty-bound to provide her protection as per the Supreme Court verdict. Those indulging in violence should think whether such acts were needed in Sabarimala.
The Devaswom Minister said neither the police nor the government would create a situation for the Sangh Parivar elements could go berserk.
