Suresh Gopi's car drove a message home; MVD failed to get it

As per norm, the place of taking permanent registration and reasons should be verified while allowing temporary registration.

Thiruvananthapuram: Actor-turned MP Suresh Gopi is now in the dock for registering his luxury car in Puducherry but the same car was prominently featured in a road safety awareness video couple of years back.

The actor’s Audi car bearing registration number PY-01-BA-999 was prominently shown in the short video which is available on the internet. It even clearly shows the fancy registration number of the car.

Mr. Gopi was learnt to have cited this during the quizzing by Crime Branch officials in connection with the case for registering the car in Puducherry for allegedly evading road tax in Kerala. He asked why the enforcement officials did not alert him about the illegality in registering his car in Puducherry even as the video was widely publicised.

Crime branch sources said that there had been serious laxity in the enforcement by Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) against registration of vehicles in Puducherry to evade tax. Now the MVD has filed the formal complaint against Mr Gopi and many others including actors Fahad Fazil and Amala Paul for registering vehicles in Puducherry allegedly using fabricated address proofs.

Usually the vehicles are taken for registration to Puducherry after taking temporary registration at any regional transport office in the state. As per norm, the place of taking permanent registration and reasons should be verified while allowing temporary registration. But these were ignored.
