Vigilance books former Kerala SIDCO MD Saji Basheer
Thiruvananthapuram: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has recommended probe against former Kerala Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) managing director Saji Basheer over massive hiring.
The government had earlier terminated his service following a series of allegations, some of which are under investigation.
According to sources, Vigilance Special Investigation Unit-I that conducted a quick verification into various irregularities in SIDCO found that prima facie there was corruption and hence recommended that a case is registered.
The vigilance report would soon be considered by the Enquiry Commissioner and Special Judge (Vigilance) here. The vigilance also recommended that former additional secretary P. C. Kasim should also be arraigned in the case.
Mr Basheer had faced an inquiry in connection with amassment of illegal wealth to the tune of about Rs 25 lakh, and his houses were raided by the Vigilance last year.
He also faced a vigilance case on alleged corruption of Rs 5.19 crore in developing the land of proposed Telecom City project at Menamkulam.
His appointments while heading Kerala State Industrial Enterprises were also under the scanner. Mr Basheer was said to be having a nexus with leaders of all political parties.
Though the Vigilance earlier recommended his suspension after a case was registered against him, then home minister Ramesh Chennithala objected to it.
