Prevent crime instead of detecting it: Siddaramaiah to cops
He lauded the Bengaluru city police for quickly arresting the accused in the Kammanahalli molestation case.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah issued a stern warning that no illegal activities and involvement in crime by policemen would be tolerated by the government.
Addressing the media after taking part in the Senior Police Officers’ Annual Conference on Monday, Mr Siddaramaiah said that criminal acts by policemen will result in public losing their trust in the department. “Such incidents also bring a bad name to the government. The police department is a disciplined force and no acts of crime by police will be tolerated. In connection with the Tumakuru case, where an ASI allegedly raped a minor girl, I have asked the officers concernsed to take stringent action against the accused policeman and also dismiss him from service if the charges are proved prima facie.”
Besides, he has advised the officers to focus on preventing crime rather than detecting it. “Policemen will clearly know who the anti-social elements are in their jurisdiction. In many instances, they will know that some crime would happen in their jurisdiction. Their intelligence is good, but sometimes they fail to act on it and prevent such incidents. I have asked them to focus on preventing crimes rather than detecting them later,” he said.
He lauded the Bengaluru city police for quickly arresting the accused in the Kammanahalli molestation case. “In the recent past, they have also been receiving many false cases, like the one that was registered at the K.G. Halli police station. They have to deal with such cases carefully,” he said.
Asked about the pay hike for policemen, he said, “Police personnel are also government employees. We cannot give salary hikes only to policemen and ignore employees of other departments. We are constituting a pay commission to revise salaries of all government employees, who are nearly seven lakh in the state. It will be announced in the coming budget.”
CID’s new building inaugurated
Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the Annex-2 building of the Criminal Investigation Department, which is spread across 5,810 sqft. A state-of-the-art cyber crime laboratory will come up in the building. Before that, he, Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar and other senior police officers also flagged off 100 Highway Patrol vehicles.
CM upset with JD(S) workers’ murders
It is learnt that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reportedly took objection to the way the Mandya police handled the murders of two JD(S) workers recently. “He asked the officers why the incidents could not be averted when the local police had information about a possible attack,” said an official who attended the meeting.
