MK Stalin recalls MGR-Karunanidhi friendship
Chennai: DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Monday went nostalgic while paying rich tributes to AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran as he fondly recalled that the late matinee idol had appreciated his participation in a party propaganda play.
“I had acted in a DMK propaganda play in the late 1960s and MGR encouraged me then”, Mr Stalin said in his Facebook post on the eve of MGR’s birth centenary falling on Tuesday.
“I celebrate the memory of MGR and extend my warm greetings to all those who had genuine affection for him without expecting anything in return”, said Mr Stalin, who had spent good number of years basking in the warmth of MGR before he fell out with his father M. Karunanidhi and launched his own AIADMK.
Recalling the friendship between his father and DMK president M. Karunanidhi and MGR, despite their being poles apart politically, Mr Stalin said MGR would not allow his party members to address the DMK chief by his name and would insist that he be called by his honorific, Kalaignar. Mr Stalin also recalled that successive DMK governments had named a medical university and the film city after MGR.
