Metro link to Silk Board Junction, KIAL priority: DV Sadananda Gowda

The K.R. Puram to Silk Board Junction project, which is 18 km, requires over Rs 4,200 crore.

Bengaluru: The state government will take up Metro connectivity between K.R. Puram and Silk Board junction as well as Nagavara to the Kempe Gowda International Airport on a priority basis.

After reviewing the progress of 43 centrally-sponsored projects here on Monday, Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation D.V. Sadananda Gowda said that the government is contemplating newer ways to mobilise resources for the two projects.

The K.R. Puram to Silk Board Junction project, which is 18 km, requires over Rs 4,200 crore. The 30 km link between Nagavara and the Kempe Gowda International Airport too is important. Both will be taken up on priority, Mr Gowda said.

The first phase of Metro, which is around 42 km, which was completed at a cost of Rs 13,845 crore, will be inaugurated by next month. The work on 72 km second phase at a cost of Rs 26,000 crore has to be completed by 2020. The officials are, however, confident that it would be done before the deadline, he said. Bengaluru will have over 224 km of Metro connection. Though there were initial challenges in implementing the projects, officials have overcome the problems. Now, the projects will be completed ahead of schedule, he said.

At present, about 43 Centre-funded infrastructure projects, including road, rail, gas and others involving 16 departments, are in progress in the state. The Centre will ensure assistance for these projects to be completed on time, he said.
