Kajikkode attack: Woman dies of burn injuries
Thrissur: The woman who was seriously injured in the LPG cylinder blast at Kajikkode in Palakkad on December 28 when CPM workers attacked the house of a local BJP leader, died in a hospital in Coimbatore on Monday morning.
The deceased Vimala,41, was the wife of Kannan, a former panchayat member and a BJP worker. Vimala’s brother-in-law and BJP worker Radhakrishna, who suffered injuries in the cylinder blast, had died at a private hospital in Thrissur on January 6. The BJP has called for a hartal from 1 p.m to 6 p.m at Puthussery panchayat on Sunday.
Vimala, who suffered 40 per cent burn injuries was undergoing treatment in Thrissur, but was shifted to Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore on Sunday night. She died at 9 a.m. on Monday.
On the night of December 28, CPM workers had set ablaze bikes parked in front of the house of Kannan. Radhakrishnan, Kannan’s brother was trying to douse the fire, when the LPG cylinder kept in front of the house, caught fire and exploded. Kannan’s house was totally damaged. He also suffered injuries in the blast and is presently undergoing treatment in a hospital in Coimbatore.
The incident has led to ongoing political clashes between the BJP and CPM in the Kanjikkode region.
