Case booked on Amazon for selling flip-flops with Mahatma Gandhi's image
WARANGAL URBAN: Local police on Monday filed an FIR against e-commerce company Amazon.com for selling flip-flops which have the image of Mahatma Gandhi.
According to Mills Colony police sub-inspector Ravinder, they have received a complaint against Amazon and following which they filed an FIR under Section 153 (B) of the IT Act, Section 2(4) (a) and (e) of the Prevention of Insult to National Hon-our Act.
“The case will be transferred to the cyber department for investigation. Since Amazon website needs to monitor the content on its website, they will also be held responsible for this act. The seller will be identified and notices would be sent to them along with Amazon,” he said.
Ramagiri Prabhakar, the complainant, who also happens to be a lawyer, said that the website hurt the sentiments of 125 crore people of the country. “Already, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj has warned the website and asked it to refrain from selling such items. But the incidents are repeating,” she said.
