Bengaluru: CISF constable shoots self at Kempegowda International Airport
BENGALURU: A constable with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) shot himself dead while on duty at the Kempegowda International Airport on Monday morning. Family dispute is suspected to be the reason.
The deceased, Suresh Vijay Gaikwad, hailed from Maharashtra. He was living alone in the CISF quarters near the airport.
The incident came to light around 8.30 am when he did not respond to a senior staffer’s call. “Gaikwad had come for the duty around 6 am and was posted at a watch tower close to the runway. His senior official, Venkatesh, sounded the alarm around 8.30 am to call him down, but Gaikwad did not respond. Venkatesh went to check and found him lying in a pool of blood. Venkatesh immediately alerted his senior officials and later the police,” an official said.
“The constable shot himself in the head with his service rifle. He has not left any suicide note. He was recently divorced, which could be the cause. We may get more clarity after questioning his family,” the official said.
