Special trains after services hit by protests
Hyderabad: Several trains to West Bengal and Assam operated by the South Central Railways (SCR), were cancelled or diverted on Sunday. Both states have been seeing massive protests by the general public against the recent Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The train from Guwahati to Secunderabad (02514) had to be diverted via Katihar, Barauni, and Jhajha (Bihar) and Asansol (West Bengal). Most trains to Howrah in West Bengal were cancelled altogether. This was mostly due to the agitation at Uluberia, located in Howrah district.
Many trains going to or through West Bengal, such as Hyderabad to Howrah and Secunderabad to Guwahati, were terminated at Puri. Many stranded passengers complained on social media about this.
To help them, the East Coast Railway (ECR) announced later in the day that it would run special trains between Puri and Chennai.
