Disha charges by December-end

Cops identify 30 witnesses in Disha case, gather technical evidence.

Hyderabad: Having collected the statements of close to 30 witnesses in the Disha rape and murder case, and technical evidence, the Cyberabad police is planning to file a chargesheet before the fast-track court designated at Mahbubnagar court by the end of December.

After the rape and murder of Disha, and the arrest of the four accused — Mohammed Arif, J. Shiva, J. Naveen, and C. Chennakeshavulu — the Cyberabad police had formed 10 teams to work simultaneously on the case. Each team headed by a deputy superintendent rank officer was tasked with extracting technical evidence like footage of CCTV cameras before and after the offence, location of mobile phone numbers, identifying the witnesses and recording their statements, collection and analysis of physical evidence, mapping of the incident and other documentation works.

Though the four accused were killed in an alleged exchange of fire with the police party, the teams continued the task of filing a chargesheet before the fast-track court.

The investigators have identified about 25 to 30 persons as witnesses including a man at puncture shop where the killers reportedly took Disha's bike, employees at a wine shop where the accused purchased liquor, employees of a petrol pump, and others.

The forensic analysis has resulted in establishing the identity of the victim, and that she was sexually assaulted. It has found that Disha was forced to drink liquor, which has been corraborated by the confessions of the accused.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior police official on the condition of anonymity said, "By the end of December and within the span of a month for the incident of Disha’s death, the chargesheet will be filed before the concerned court. There are around 20 to 30 witnesses in the case and we also have the technical evidence. As the accused are dead, there would not be any trial in the case."
