Thrissur: Septic waste in KWA water

he public took out a protest to the KWA office carrying the water with the yellow-coloured residues found in the water.

Thrissur: The Kerala Water Authority has asked the consumers at Chakakandam near Guruvayur not to use the piped water till further notice. There were reports that KWA water was contaminated with septic waste and that several residents had fallen ill after drinking it on Saturday.

The contamination occurred after the pipeline broke during the drainage work conducted as a part of Amrut project of the central government meant for temple towns.

As the KWA supply lines to Angadithazham and Chakkamkadam got mixed with septic waste, several persons in the area, who drank the water, started vomiting and showed signs of diarrhoea. The public took out a protest to the KWA office carrying the water with the yellow-coloured residues found in the water. The residents of Angadithazham and Chakkamkadam said that they had earlier complained about the odour of the drinking water but KWA officials did not take any action until several persons fell ill on Saturday.
