K Chandrasekhar Rao warns against delay in irrigation projects

Mr Rao expressed his dissatisfaction to the contractors over the delay in the execution of the projects, sources said.

Hyderabad: Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who has took charge as the Chief Minister on Thursday for a second term, held his first review meeting on the progress of irrigation projects in the state and decided to visit the sites personally in the coming days.

At a meeting with the officials of the irrigation and finance departments and the chief secretary at Pragathi Bhavan, the Mr expressed his dissatisfaction over the delay in the construction of Seethara-ma Sagar and restoration of the Sri Ram Sagar Project. He directed the officials to complete all projects within two years and supply water to one crore acres of land.

Mr Rao expressed his dissatisfaction to the contractors over the delay in the execution of the projects, sources said, adding that the contractors of the SRSP have assured Mr Rao that they would complete the project by the end of May 2019.

Sources also said that Mr Rao has cautioned the officials against delay in completing the Kaleshwaram project. He also directed the official to distribute the compensation to the farmers whose lands were acquired for the irrigation projects.

The CM told the officials that he would visit the barrages and pump houses under Kaleshwaram project on Tuesday to review the construction works. He directed them to ensure that water is released for the irrigation by June 2019 from the project.

Mr Rao also directed the finance department to release Rs 80 crore as compensation for people whose lands were acquired for Gandhmalla and Basvapuram reservoirs.
