Telangana: Special courts need of the hour, say victims
Hyderabad: Victims demand exclusive courts to deal with matrimonial offences for quicker disposal of cases. Special courts for women with special rosters to deal with matrimonial offences are the need of the hour as most women who are victims of such offences do not receive any maintenance from their husbands.
Even when court orders direct husbands to pay their wives’ maintenance, the women are rarely able to collect the sum. Apart from exclusive courts for women, the government should also set up funds to pay the victims of matrimonial offences and establish a procedure by which the amounts can be recovered from their husbands.
Afsar Jahan, a senior advocate at the High Court, says, “There are general laws and hearings, which take a lot of time. Special courts for women should be set up for the rapid disposal of cases pertaining to matrimonial offences. Such courts will help resolve all the pending matrimonial cases.
