Andhra Pradesh: Chlorinated water within three months

The Collector assured efforts to provide buildings to accommodate gram panchayat offices by Sankranti festival in the district.

Eluru: West Godavari Collector K. Bhaskar assured residents that potable water would be supplied to them in about three months from 1,700 drinking water schemes keeping in mind their health. Taking part in a meeting here on Friday, he said that they were going to subject the water to auto-chlorination by using liquid chlorine to purify it before pumping to people for consumption.

He said that they were taking steps to install LED bulbs in 909 gram panchyats in the district. A third power line would be laid for a distance of 900 km and directed the concerned officials to complete the works in 60 days. For maintenance of sanitation, the Collector asked panchayat officials to set up solid waste management sheds in gram panchayats and assured them to release subsidy amount for purchasing 1,600 vehicles through SC and BC Corporations in order to collect garbage door-to-door in gram panchayats.

He directed the panchayat officials to organise gram panchayat meetings in the offices with all office bearers attending it and instructed the officials to take bio-metric attendance of the ward members attending such meetings. He exhorted the members to give up the habit of sitting at home and appending signature on registers without attending meetings.
