Slum-dwellers scheme to benefit developers in Vijayawada

Some TD big heads float proposals through bureaucrats.

Vijayawada: Silver screen’s Janata Garage will happen in reality soon in the state. The proposed government scheme to provide homes to slum-dwellers at scavenger’s colony in Tirupati, Dhall Mill Area in Vijayawada and to slum lands of Cobaldpet and Vaddegudem in Guntur, will provide more benefit to developers rather than people living in slums there.

All the said slums are now located in prime areas, and as part of evacuating the same, few TD big heads have planned this strategy and floated the proposals through bureaucrats to the government. If everything goes as per the plan divulged by the government, developers are the end beneficiaries.

In fact, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu divulged the details on Wednesday, over three major slum development proposals for a slum-free state. The proposed sch-eme will provide homes to slum-dwellers at scavenger’s colony in Tirupati, Dhall Mill Area in Vijayawada and to slum lands of Cobaldpet and Vaddegudem in Guntur. The three cities are strategically important for the government.

The Chief Minister gave his nod for the proposed 11-storied building at scavenger’s colony in Tirupati which will come up in an area of 75 cents in which 286 families are residing at present. All these families will be provided a minimum of 340 sq ft flat.

The total cost of the project is Rs 29.49 crore and the developer who comes forward to bear this costs will be provided with an area of 1.59 acre which is valued at Rs 38.48 crore. A school will also be constructed by the developer in an area of 8,730 sq ft and tenders for the project will be called soon.

In a 1.11 acres area in Dhall Mill where at present 304 families are residing, in Vijayawada, the developer will construct houses for slum area people, according to the officials.

Houses for the poor in Cobaltpet, Guntur, will come up in an area of 20.90 acres in which 2,594 families are living at present, and in Vaddegudem where 600 people are residing, houses will come up on an area of 2.40 acres.
