Hyderabad: 100 cops get traffic rap

Police personnel served memos for violating rules.

Hyderabad: At least 100 policemen were served charge memos or attached to headquarters by Hyderabad top cops for not wearing helmets and for driving on the wrong side of the road.

Most of them are with the Blue Colts, and were on patrol or were respon-ding to emergencies. In the East Zone alone, 11 cops were issued memos by the deputy commissioner of police.

Traffic police inspector M. Narsinga Rao said, “There is zero tolerance on traffic violations. We have issued e-challans to around 100 traffic policemen this year for violations. Most of them were served with charge memos by top officials. The police will implement the law equally, including on our own.”

Police commissioner M. Mahendar Reddy has ordered policemen not to enter the CP’s office on two-wheelers without wearing helmets.

West Zone deputy commissioner of police A. Venkateswara Rao said, “At least 10 policemen, mostly constables on bikes, were issued memos or attached to the headquarters for not wearing helmets.”

Being attached to headquarters is a form of punishment, he said.

The e-challans issued to the police personnel are based on pictures provided by traffic police personnel equipped with cameras but also the general public who post pictures of violations on the Facebook page.
