Demonetisation: Vijayawada cops start cashless services

Commissioner signs MoU with banks to offer 52 types of transactions to public.

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada city police started the cashless transactions on Thursday. City police commissioner D. Gautam Sawang has entered into an MoU with the State Bank of India, Axis Bank and the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI).

Sharing details with the media, the police commissioner stated that people can avail around 52 types of services from the police department with the introduction of cashless services. Citizens can visit the police stations and commissionerate office to avail the services by using the swiping machines.

Due to demonetisation, a large number of people in the city are struggling due to non-availability of small denomination notes and new Rs 2,000 notes. In this backdrop, the police department introduced e- transactions.

The commissioner stated that the department will use swipe machines to collect the penalty for violation of traffic rules and other offences. He said people can pay online to the police department to get licences and to get permission for mike services.

Mr Sawang said e-challan will be replaced by manual challan at the police stations. He said the National Payment Corporation of India is rendering assistance to the police department for transforming the department into cashless.

The police department will organise a rally from Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium on Friday morning to create awareness among the people about the cashless transactions.

Mr Sawang said college students will participate in a large number in the rally which begins at the IGMC stadium. State Bank of India regional manager G.V. Sastry said the use of mobile services is safe and appealed to the people to cultivate the habit of cashless transactions. He said mobile Apps can be downloaded into mobile phones for the cashless transactions.

Axis Bank assistant general manager Siva Kumar said money theft can be prevented if people go for cashless transactions.
