Hyderabad: NRI students wishing to write the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) in April 2017 may be relieved. The Aadhaar card was made mandatory for candidates in India. But CBSE has exempted NRI students from this condition.

CBSE officials said that students from overseas can submit passport details or any other ID proof to be eligible to write the exam. Aadhaar card is necessary only for those students who completed their plus two education in India, the official said.

For the first time this year, JEE will be conducted in some centres abroad. The list includes Singapore, Bahrain, Dubai, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Colombo and Kathmandu.

On getting a nod from Human Resources Development Ministry, the IIT council decided to conduct both JEE and GATE, for admission to UG and PG courses respectively, in countries with sizable presence of Indian diaspora. NRI students have now the option of either writing the exam in the native country or in one of the selected centres abroad.
