Telangana gets first anti-power theft police station
Hyderabad: The state government has decided to set up an anti-power theft police station, the first ever, which will function from Siddipet. The finance department issued orders according sanction to set up the police station on Friday.
According to the orders, the police station will be headed by an inspector of police (civil) as station house officer and he will report to the chairman and managing director of the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL). The DGP will depute the inspector to the power utility.
Hitherto, the vigilance wing of the TSSPDCL handled power theft cases, but it has now requested the government to set up a dedicated police station to oversee power thefts, with state wide jurisdiction.
Apart from sanctioning the anti-power theft police, the state government has deputed 148 police personnel to work in TSGenco on deputation.
According to the orders, about 148 police personnel including deputy superintendent of police,10 assistant commandants (Armed Reserve /TS Special Police), a civil inspector, 11 reserve inspectors, one reserve sub-inspector, 13 civil sub-inspectors, 36 head constables (civil/AR), 31 constables (civil/AR) and 44 women constables (civil/AR), will work under TSGenco.
The force would also be deployed for security at power generation units. The sub-inspectors would be allotted to the 10 erstwhile districts to monitor and control power thefts and also incidents of manhandling of employees of TSSPDCL and TSGenco.
