MUVATTUPUZHA: It was sweet revenge for Jagath Chirag in the mimicry competition in the CBSE Schools State Festival 2019 on Friday.

The Class V student entered to compete with senior students in mimicry during the 2015 festival somewhat like a wildcard entry and drew huge applause and media attention. He was disqualified following complaints from the senior students that he did not belong to the senior student category. However, he was then given a consolation prize succumbing to public demand. In 2019 he has made a comeback by winning the first prize in the festival in mimicry at Vazhakulam here.

This time Jagath could win only second place in the district level competition but has come up trumps in the state-level competition. Jagath is much thrilled about his win.

He presented the story of renowned singer Ranu Mandal who used to sing on railway platforms and then became a celebrity at Muvattupuzha. Jagath narrated the life of Ranu Mandal, from the street to singing for a Hindi movie. Jagath is studying in ninth standard at Hitech Pub-lic School in Vattoly, Kozhikode. Sudhan Kaiveli, music teacher of the school, is his mimicry guru.

Audience at stage fifteen of the festival were surprised to see celebrities Deepika Padukone, Sai Pallavi, Rekha, Prasanna Master, Neerav, Priyamani et al being called out on to the stage. This was done by contestants during the anchoring competition. Majority of contestants were girls and they used special tone and tenor, style and body language in their presentations. Many peppered it with humour while some blurted out songs and posed questions to the audience. Within the stipulated time of seven minutes, they seemed giving the professional anchors of channel shows a run for their money.
