Vijayawada: Poor lifter seeks financial support
Vijayawada: Donkena Anusha, an international power lifter from Andhra Pradesh, has sought support from the state government. Anusha, who is from Pondugala village under Mylavaram mandal, had won 2 international medals and as many as 10 national medals — 5 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze — in the past five years.
As her father is a chronic patient and her family is financially poor, she was finding it difficult to focus on sport. She has not received any support either from the government or from private institutions for her diet, which key to perform in power lifting space.
Though Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had promised her a reward of Rs 10 lakh and monthly stipend of Rs 30,000 for her diet, she has not got it yet.
Her father Srinivasa Rao suffers from paralysis and has just recovered, while her mother Malleswari is suffering from a spinal cord problem for the past few years.
The entire family depends on the income of her brother Vamsi a Kabaddi player, who works as an agriculture labourer.
