Telangana questions Andhra Pradesh's Krishna water requirement
Hyderabad: The TS government asked Andhra Pradesh why it needed more water from the Krishna river when surplus from the Godavari river was available for the needs of Krishna Delta as well as the area under Nagarjunasagar Left Canal.
The question was posed by TS senior counsel C.S. Vaidyanathan to AP retired chief engineer K.V. Subba Rao during cross-examination before the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal-2 in New Delhi.
Mr Subba Rao, the AP witness, said that though the AP government was taking steps to reduce the crop harvest time by permitting short duration varieties of paddy, the needs of Krishna Delta especially for drinking purposes was not declining. Therefore, the impact of the diversion of Godavari waters into the Krishna could be estimated. The hearings resumed on Wednesday, and would continue on Thursday.
