Telangana: Assembly to discuss law on Lokayukta
Hyderabad: The state government on Wednesday introduced the Telangana Lokayukta (Amendment) Act, 2017 in Assembly to set up Lokayukta and Upa Lokayukta, to deal with complaints relating to corruption among public functionaries. The bill will be debated and adopted in the House on Thursday.
The previous Lokayukta constituted in Undivided AP has been listed under Schedule X of AP Reor-ganisation Act, 2014, and has been serving both the states.
Law minister A. Indrakaran Reddy said TS had adopted AP Lokayukta Act, 1983 but felt that there was a need to make certain amendments for better governance and administration to suit the needs of state.
The government felt that “the secretary appointed under previous Act has failed to discharge the functions attached to this post and defined secretary as secretary to the government and includes the chief secretary, special chief secretary, principal secretary, additional secretary and a joint secretary."
Another amendment makes the Lokayukta or Upa-Lokayukta ineligible for employment at certain positions.
