Help people in bank queues: Karnataka BJP

S. Suresh Kumar said that the party has instructed BJP district presidents to come to the rescue of the people.

Bengaluru: Seemingly perturbed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and ruling Congress workers rushing to the help of hapless population in front of banks and ATMs, the state BJP on Tuesday directed its cadre to help members of the public standing in queues in front of banks to either get their demonetised notes exchanged or to withdraw money.

Party spokesperson and former minister S. Suresh Kumar said that the party has instructed BJP district presidents to come to the rescue of the people. "The party has instructed its cadres to assist the people in filling the forms, withdrawing money or depositing old denomination notes in the banks," he said.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has waged a war against black money by demonetizing Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes. Party workers should join hands with him in helping the public," he said.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar on Tuesday visited Sagar Hospital in Jayanagar after receiving complaints that the hospital was refusing to accept old currency notes from the patients. "This is the most ridiculous and callous decision taken by any government in this country. In the absence of proper instructions from the Union government, most of the hospitals are refusing to accept old currency notes from the patients," he said.

He also demanded that the union government should take immediate steps to introduce Rs 500 notes to put an end to the misery of the public. "Personally, I am not finding it difficult, but everything cannot be measured by the same yardstick. What applies to me may not apply to the poor labourer, who does not possess a credit card or a debit card. Each individual is facing different problems and the Union government has unleashed a panicky situation," he alleged.

He visited several business establishments in and around Jayanagar Shopping complex. Supporters of Transport Minister R. Ramalinga Reddy too fanned out across his constituency to help the people fill up forms and distribute water and biscuits to those standing in long ques.
