Explain why experts were disregarded: TPCC to KCR

The Congress leaders said that KCR, for reasons best known to him, wanted to push ahead with the plant with old technology.

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders, led by TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, sought an explanation from the state government on why it ignored advice given by experts and went ahead with construction of Bhadradri Thermal Power Plant with subcritical technology instead of supercritical.

The Congress leaders lamented that the government invested Rs 1,027 crore on the plant without even getting any clearance from the Central electricity authority and the environment ministry who finally refused permission, saying that subcritical technology was outdated.

Addressing a news conference at Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday, the Congress leaders said that though the government has given contract to the Central public sector undertaking BHEL for construction of the project, the main question was why it went ahead with the project when experts had clearly said that any outdated technology would not be permitted by the Centre.

They demanded to know how would the government defend itself and an explanation on what it plans to do with the project. The Congress leaders said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, for reasons best known to him, wanted to push ahead with the plant with old technology.

They said due to rejection of the permission, the state has been put to heavy loss of over Rs 1,000 crore. TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Congress MLA Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and others were present.
