CM Jagan to shift to Vizag in December

Chief minister Opens Infosys, pharma units

Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has said he would shift to Visakhapatnam sometime in December. Initially, his plan was to shift himself to the port city around Dasara.

"I have asked my staff to look for a suitable place for me and others. They are working on it. CMO has to have a huge security apparatus. The planning and implementation of these takes time. Vizag would, as a result, turn into a tier-1 city," the CM said.

“December may be the outer line for my shifting,’’ Jagan Mohan Reddy told the staff and officials of Infosys after formally inaugurating the premises.

He said, “Visakhapatnam DC is a landmark moment in the city’s growth story. We acknowledge the support of Infosys in giving impetus to the city’s IT landscape and developing its overall ecosystem through community building. We are confident that this centre will not only give a massive boost to employment here but also strengthen Visakhapatnam’s sustainability through Infosys’ ESG commitments and efforts.”

The Chief Minister said Visakhapatnam has the potential to grow on par with Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai with the existing infrastructure. “More IT firms would line-up to invest in Visakhapatnam,” he said.

“Infosys will play a bigger role in the growth trajectory of Visakhapatnam’s IT industrial scenario. Next year, we will have an Adani Data centre with a huge submarine cable coming from Singapore that will change the entire landscape of Visakhapatnam IT business.”

Stating that there was no dearth of human resources in Visakhapatnam, the chief minister said the city has eight universities, 14 engineering colleges and 12 degree colleges producing 12,000 to 15,000 engineers every year.

In addition, the city has prestigious institutions like IIM and National Law University. On the industrial front, Visakhapatnam has public sector units like IOC and in the defense sector, the Eastern Naval Command which has over 15,000 members.

Spread across 83,750 sq.ft, Visakhapatnam DC will provide greater flexibility to employees to work in a hybrid mode and closer to their home. The new centre will enable Infosys to also attract, re-skill and up-skill local talent to work on global opportunities through next-gen technologies like Cloud, AI, and Digital.

The chief financial officer for Infosys, Nilanjan Roy, said, “Aimed at bringing the workspace closer to Infoscions, this centre will further our approach towards creating hybrid workplaces, and also offer new opportunities to the local talent pool. Visakhapatnam has developed into a favorable investment destination. We are grateful to the state for extending its support to our operations here.”
