NGOs back RTC employees strike

TNGO to meet today, take a decision on joining strike.

Hyderabad: In a major blow to the state government, Telangana non-gazetted associations on Tuesday announced support to the ongoing strike of the RTC employees and demanded that the government should resolve the RTC employees’ issues.

This followed a meeting of the RTC JAC leaders with leaders of the TNGOs at Nampally.

TNGO president K, Ravinder Reddy expressed concern over the suicide of two RTC employees and said that they would extend the support and take part in the strike. He said the TNGO meeting on Wednesday would discuss the future course of action.

Mr Ravinder Reddy said that if the government did not resolve the issues, they would plan another ‘Sakala Janula Samme’ (general strike) along with other government employees’ unions.

RTC JAC convener Ashwathama Reddy welcomed their decision to support the RTC strike. He said that the RTC ran into losses after state bifurcation and alleged that management did not take steps to recruit staff. The management also spent `1,400 crore Provident Fund contribution of the employees.

The state government which is making alternative arrangements to run bus services has deployed veterinary assistants and staff from the other departments at bus depots.
