Bengaluru: Defending the party's decision to allow JD(S) to field candidates from both Ballari and Shivamogga parliament seats, PCC president Dinesh Gundurao on Monday stated that everyone would be surprised that this political manoeuvre would be beneficial to the Congress.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Rao said, “We are searching for winnable candidates and we strongly feel that he (Madhu Bangarappa) with winability criteria. Though the Congress had been consistently securing four lakh plus votes in the constituency, we have not won from this seat for a long time. This is the best bet we have.”
According to him, both parties have already decided to contest jointly in Lok Sabha elections and these by-elections will be testimony to the Congress party's commitment to stand vis-à-vis its partners. "We will be sitting and chalking out strategies to contest jointly in all 28 constituencies once these by-elections are over. We have some strengths, and so does JD(S). We need to add both to defeat BJP in 2019 Lok Sabah polls," he explained.
