Hi-tech labs in 9,941 schools of Kerala

Already 45,000 classrooms in high schools and higher secondary schools have been made hi-tech as part of this initiative.

Thiruvananthapuram: As part of the efforts to make Kerala India’s first digital state in education, hi-tech computer labs will be set up in 9,941 government and aided upper primary and lower primary schools.

The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has submitted to the government a detailed project report for the Rs 300- crore project to set up hi-tech labs in 5,396 primary schools and 2,565 upper primary schools.

General Education Minister C. Raveendranath said in a statement that the state government was aiming to make Kerala the first digital state in education by June 1, 2019.

KITE vice-chairman and executive director K. Anvar Sadath said that the project could be commissioned in six months after getting government nod. Depending upon the strength of students, each school would get two to 20 laptop computers and one to ten multi-media projectors.

Schools with over 200 students would also get a 42- inch LED television and schools with over 100 students would get multi-function printers.

A total of 65,177 laptops and USB speakers, 26,579 multimedia projectors, 5,644 multifunction printers and 3,248 42-inch LED television sets have to be purchased for the project. A web-portal for complaint registration and a call-centre facility would be set up for timely complaint management.
