WARANGAL: Rich floral tributes were paid to the portrait of the late president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam accompanied by slogans of ‘Salam Kalam’ on his birth anniversary.
At an event organised by Warangal-based NGO Sulakshya Seva Samiti on Sunday, participants recalled the inspirational life and motivational teachings of the late President who dedicated his entire life for the nation’s wellbeing.
Speaking on the occasion, project officer of ITDA, Eturunagaram V. Chakradhar Rao, said that Kalam lived a very simple life as President of India despite having a chance to lead a luxurious life.
Students should take a cue from his life and try to scale great heights. “We all should learn from our mistakes, overcome challenges to succeed in our life. Morals, ethics and values should be instilled in children apart from the academic skills as the character is what defines a person,” he said.
Radio announcer Syed Maqdoom has said that youth should devote some time to bring about the well being of society. I appreciate Sulakshya Seva Samithi for doing their bit. Installing statues, garlanding them and remembering their services is not a fitting tribute, following their footsteps and taking forward their ideologies is the right way to honour the great souls who sacrificed their lives for the motherland,” he opined.
Ex-servicemen Ilaiah shared some of his experiences. “It is a privilege to be a soldier and the youth should see it as a very good career opportunity which gives a proud feeling of serving the nation. One needs a lot of courage to take decisions in tough times. Kalam is one such person who had that trait. I personally experienced it when he came to my workplace in Assam as President of India.” Founder president of the Samiti Santhosh Manduva spoke.
Geometry boxes were distributed to all the students by Mr Chakradhar Rao on the occasion.
