Hyderabad: Cops search of missing man

The man, who may have been drunk, sat on the nala's retaining wall and then slipped into the gushing waters on Saturday evening.

Hyderabad: More than 24 hours after an unidentified man fell into a nala at Ganeshnagar and was swept away, the Jeedimetla police continue to search for him or his body. The man, who may have been drunk, sat on the nala’s retaining wall and then slipped into the gushing waters on Saturday evening. The public tried hard to rescue him using a rope. He tried to cling on to an elevated manhole, but due to the heavy flow he could not hold on for long.

Neighbouring police stations have been alerted. They have also issued a lookout notice. The Jeedimetla police have started cleaning garbage piled up in the nala.

Inspector C. Shanker Reddy said JCB machines were used to clear the garbage and silt accumulated on the banks and at the culvert and searches for the missing man went on till late at night.

"As the flow was heavy, we suspect that he was carried away in the nala," the inspector said.

No missing person complaint has been reported so far and there were no CCTV cameras installed in the area which would give the police any details of what happened. The nala flows towards Bowenpally, Begumpet, and then joins the Musi. Teams have been deployed to locate the body at the nala exit as well.
